Digital Twin Contest

Call for Participation

IFIP WG 5.1 Contest for Digital Twin at PLM’24

Description

The International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 5.1 on Global Product Development for the whole life-cycle, with the endorsement of the Technical Committees 5.1 Manufacturing Plant Control and 5.3 Integration and Interoperability of Enterprise Systems of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), propose an international competition to challenge the community with developing Digital Twins, a concept originally known as “Conceptual Ideal for PLM”.

The Digital Twin contest will be held in person at the 21st International Conference on Product Lifecycle Management (July 7-10, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand).

The Digital Twin Contest has the following goals:

  • Lack of consensus around the Digital Twin concept.
  • Numerous research proposals without objective evidence of scientific or technical progress.

The competition track will also be the opportunity for participants to build future collaborations (e.g., a special interest group, education and research projects, summer school, etc.).

Important Dates

  • Submission deadline: March 15, 2024
  • Notification: March 30, 2024

Eligibility

The Digital Twin contest is open to researchers, students and professionals to showcase innovative and exciting Digital Twins. Volunteer participants in the competition are not required to submit a scientific paper but must register for the PLM’24 International Conference.

Although the definition of the Digital Twin concept is a hot topic, the contest is open to all sorts of physical-digital synchronisation with at least one automatic data flow. The jury will appreciate Digital Twins with characteristics such as multi-physics, multi-scale, uncertainties, lifecycle evolution (as-specified, as-designed, as-built, as-operated, as-maintained…), unique, near real-time communication, realism (appearance, psychological, behavioural, mission, construction…), etc.

At the Conference

Original Digital Twins selected to compete will be judged in two stages. In the first stage, a panel of distinguished international jurors will judge the Digital Twin videos and 2-page papers (80 %), and the audience will vote (20 %) to select the semi-finalists – the three best Digital Twins. These finalists will present their work (Tuesday, July 9 12:00-12:30) during the PLM’24 Digital Twin Contests Final Presentation. At the end of the presentations, the judges will announce the first- second-, and third-place winners.

The judging criteria are the relevance of the topic, novelty, usability, and maturity (to be refined by the jury).

At least one author of each accepted work should be on-site during the Digital Twin Contest as part of the PLM 2024 conference.

Prizes and Awards

The top three winners will receive local gifts.

The first place winner will receive a certificate, trophy and a US$ 500 cash prize.
